Top Sites To Visit Near Pragati Maidan

One of the more visited places in Delhi is Pragati Maidan. Being a hub for exhibition and other events this place is regularly visited by tourists. Events like Auto Expo fair, Trade fair and the International Book fair take place here every year.

There are many tourist sites here and you may stumble upon on certain tourist spots while you are in Pragati Maidan.

While checking out the capital city and try to include the following places in your list of must-visit sites.

National handicraft and handloom museum: Also known as National Crafts Museum, it is one of the prime attractions near Pragati Maidan. This is a paradise for art lovers, as the museum comprises of several galleries like Tribal & Rural Craft Gallery, Gallery of Courtly Crafts, Gallery of Popular Culture and Textile Gallery.

National science centre: Located close to gate 1 of Pragati Maidan, it is one of the largest exhibition halls in the world which cater to all age groups. The galleries and displays here include Heritage & Dinosaur gallery, Fun Science Library and Human Biology gallery.

Purana Qila:  Also, known as the old fort is one of the most renowned places to visit while in Delhi. Apart from the sight of the impressive fort, there is a lake here with boating facilities for tourists. A sound and light show is held every evening to entertain the visitors.

Jantar Mantar: This historical monument is an important one and one of the most visited sites in and around New Delhi. Constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1724 the astronomical instruments found here are of immense importance. Raja Singh also built more observatories in Mathura, Varanasi, and Ujjain.

Crafts Museum: The crafts museum in Delhi is a sight worth seeing and should not be missed for the world. It has on display the traditional crafts and textiles from around the country. The exquisitely constructed haveli in the Gujarati style present on the grounds is very artistic. The museum houses paintings, terracotta, metalware, wood carvings, and various aspects of rural India which makes the place worth visiting.         

Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar is a 73 metres tower built by Qutub-ud-din Aibak soon after he defeated the last Hindu kingdom of Delhi. It is one of the finest structures of Indian architecture. It is a much-visited place by people from all over the country. The courtyard has a thick iron pillar, which according to legend is difficult to encircle with your hands if you stand with your back to it. People who can encircle it are considered lucky and whatever they wish for while holding it will come true. The origin of the minaret is unknown which makes it even more enticing to visit.

Other tourist destinations, which are worth visiting, include Humayun’s Tomb, Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, National Zoological Park of Delhi and National Gallery of Modern Art. Travel to the capital city to explore the history, culture and heritage of India! All these places can be visited within a day’s tour if you stay at any of the hotels near Pragati Maidan.
